OUR TREATMENT APPROACH

HOW DOES CBT WORK?
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, often referred to as CBT, is an approach to therapy that focuses on present difficulties and conceptualizes emotional distress as a consequence of thinking, emotional, and behavioral habits. These habits were developed in the past to cope with environmental and interpersonal distress, but became maladaptive under ones current life conditions. Once identified and understood, the utility of such habits can be reexamined. Specific recommendations on how to modify and adjust the habitual responses are discussed and implemented. Specific treatment plans have been developed and tested to optimize the effectiveness of the treatment. Individualized treatment plans are developed following a carefully structured evaluation process, and implemented in a collaborative therapy environment.
THE GOALS OF CBT INCLUDE:
- elimination of the symptoms that interfere with ones functioning
- increase in activities
- improvements in interpersonal relationships
- maintenance of well being for a long time following the termination of the treatment
